A local tavern on a calm night, chatter could be heard from every corner from every sort. At a table in the center of the room sat a group of sailors in a heated debate. Each was giving their stories of the high sees, friends having grown up together but on different ships. Soon, however, the friendly chatter turned to argument over a specific ship and a specific captain, that of Sebastian Reign, the dreaded captain of a long dead ship, the Nightmare. People were fascinated by the captain of the pirate ship as it was rumored he never kept prisoners, never killed innocent, and only went after crooked merchant ships and the navy boats with crooked sailors. The man had been wealthy, always plundering, but never harming unless they went after him first, in which case they were fare game. However, stories were always mixed up because it always seemed like no one every knew he was coming, he was faster then light, his skin was pail as a ghost. As the argument grew, chatter died down as a loan echo of laughter seemed to fill the room from a small table in the back of the tavern. "Sebastian Reign....the famed pirate captain of the Nightmare." The voice spoke. "Quite an interesting tale. Not worth a friendship though, no?" The voice spoke as a figure soon appeared. It was a local wealthy nobleman by the name of Sebastian Michales, who in truth, was really Sebastian Reign. He had taken to using his middle name as his last name, but the story behind that will come later. He lifted his eyes from his glass of what looked to be red wine, and glanced towards the men. "No...no Sir." The men stammered. "He ain't worth it." One of the three stammered out. "But...sir I swears I saw him on my last trip." Another blurted out suddenly. "Really?" Sebastian asked, swirling his glass and taking a sip before turning his gaze towards the three once more. "Would be difficult since there is recorded proof that his ship went down nearly a hundred and fifty years ago." He stated. "Aye...tis true. Navy done him in." The final of the three stated. "Aye...guess you are right, sir. Not worth a friendship arguing over." The second one, who had said he saw the ship, stated. "Good men." Sebastian responded. He leaned back in his seat and went silent as the chatter resumed in the tavern. Sebastian's eyes moved towards the door briefly as it opened, an eyebrow raised as he noticed a woman enter the tavern. His curiosity peaked he waited and watched in silence.

Most of the men glanced over the woman at first but then found their eyes drawn back to her. Was it her long raven hair that drew their eyes? The obvious curve to her figure somehow still evident under the men's longcoat she wore? Was it the gun on her hip? Or the tan to her skin from hours spent in the sun? No, it was none of these. Eyes were drawn to her because of one very evident thing. Her right eye was a deep vibrant blue, like the ocean on a clear day, her left eye, though, was a unnatural golden yellow. She ignore the stares as she took her seat at the bar and ordered a drink, looking irritated when the bartender didn't bring it right away because he was busy staring. She slammed her fist on the counter shocking the whole room. The bartender jumped a little at this aggressive behavior and moved to her her ale. This seemed to satisfy her and she leaned back in her chair
"Purdy hair" a drunk sailor grinned walking over "It looks soft" as he reached out to touch it she spun around and grabbed his wrist, applying painful pressure to it "Hands to yourself" she growled lightly
As the drunk skulked away whining one of the men not fair from Sebastian leaned over to his friend "Did you see her eye?" he said to his friend "She must be that woman we heard about this morning. The privateer ship that was attacked by pirates. Lone survivor, she was. The first mate or something i think. Folks are saying she's cursed. She sailed on four different ships, all privateers. Damn good sailor, and fighter. but cursed. every ship she's sailed found fortune and wealth but then has been downed by pirates, and she's the only one that ever survives."
The woman pounded back her mug of ale then glanced around the room. She could hear the murmurs buzzing, catching men sneaking a glance at her. She got to her feet and dropped coin on the counter. It was clear she would find no work among this lot, hearing the word curse repeated in the whispers that they thought she could not hear

Sebastian glanced towards the woman and smirked slightly, one canine, sharp pas a fang, barely visible. He downed his drink and stood, moving to walk out. "Steven..." He bowed his head slightly to the bartender as he tossed down a hefty bag of coins. "A round for everyone." He state easily. "Keep the rest in tip." He then moved to head out. As he stepped outside he glanced around. "Guess it is time to find someone to work on the ship." He stated with a soft smirk on his lips. "Good afternoon lady Sylvia." He said in greeting to a woman before glancing around, his eyes landing on the woman, knowing she would have likely heard his statement. Sebastian moved over to a board and slipped a paper on it before moving to head towards the docks for a brief time.

She met his eye for a second and narrows hers at him. She hesitated a second and then stepped out behind him "Hey" she said. She crossed her arms looking straight at him. She was not ashamed or self-conscious about her strange eye that always had people gawking "What kind of ship do you captain?" she needed work but she was particular as to what kind of ship she'd work on. Not the model or anything like that, but the type of work they did. She was direct and unwavering. She knew he had likely heard she was cursed so if he had no interest he would just shoot her down

Sebastian glanced towards the woman as she walked towards him. "Transport." He stated. "Looking for a skilled fighter, and potentially First mate for the ship." He told her. "Though I should warn you...there are some that say the Nightmare stays close to my ship as protection, and if you have been on the seas for any length, you will know of that ship."

"Nightmare is on the bottom of the ocean, everyone knows that. Some scared little girls like to say they saw it but a long time at sea can do that to the mind" she stared at him "They say I'm cursed" she said bluntly, not wanting to go into anything with that being something that would loom over her "I can fight, and I've managed a few ships as mate, i know my charts. But men won't like a cursed first mate"

Sebastian laughed softly, knowing all to well that Nightmare was not gone entirely, but that was for a different time. "Curses only work if you believe in them." He stated. "And the men will do what needs to be done." He assured her. "Report to the docks first thing tomorrow." He said before tossing her a back of coins. "Consider it a sign on bonus. Get yourself some decent clothing and a good night's rest." He told her. Sebastian glanced towards her. "Bring a clear head and sharpened blades. This should be an interesting trip." He stated.

"You haven;t even told me what the pay is yet" she said, implying he was presumptuous to think she'd take the job, though she knew full well that she would take it either way since it seemed she'd have no other options. She weighed the bag of coin in her hands, finding him to be quite odd, since usually a sign on bonus came after having officially signed the papers. Still she shrugged and pocketed the coin, brushing off the insult to her clothing, figuring he had not meant anything by it "Amelia" she said looking back at him "Amelia Harkness" She figured if she would be working with him, she might as well share her name

"The pay comes with completion. I wasn't really worried about you not taking it. IF you didn't want the job you wouldn't have approached me and you would have handed back the coin." He stated. "Also if you choose not to take it then consider the coin enough to get you by until something comes along." He stated, glancing towards her. "Sebastian Michales." He stated, introducing himself. "As I said, lady Harkness....I will see you tomorrow morning."

"I'm no lady" Amelia said simply in response, nodding her head to him and walking away, not sure what her take on him was
She was at the dock early the next morning, before the sun was even up. She was wearing different clothes. New pants and boots with white shirt and a brown waist corset that she had not bothered cinching since her waist was small enough. She still wore the men's coat though, almost as if to hide the curves that she still obviously had. When asked she generally said it was to keep her figure from distracting the men. She had pulled her long hair back into a braid so it was out of her face and wore her gun on one hip like the night before, and a sword on the other

Sebastian was ordering the men about on his transport ship, his hair whipping slightly in the morning wind. He turned and glanced towards her, bowing his head slightly in greeting when he saw her present. "MOVE IT!" He snapped to a few that were slacking about, his tone clear and carried across the ship as the men immediately got back to work. "Come aboard." He called down to her without moving from where he was, monitoring the ships activities.

Amelia stepped onto the ship and lined around meeting the eye of one of the men that paused to stare at "Tighten up that knot or we'll lose that cargo at the first sign of turbulent sea"she ordered, not telling but firmly staring him down, her voice taking on a gruff almost growl to the tone just every so subtly. Not even knowing who she was the man quickly looked away and did as he was told "Who taught him to tie a knot?" She asked blankly stepping up to where Sebastian was

"No telling. Probably the previous idiot I let run this ship. Part of why I took over running the ship instead of meaving it to someone else. That and I got tired of the lying and thefts." Sebastian stated before motioning for her to follow. He showed her where everything was on the ship including her quarters. When they reached the map room he pointed to the map on the table. "That shoes the route we take." He said. The route took them right by the resting place of the nightmare. A few maps and pieces from said ship hung in the wall around the room, though only a select few actually knew that. Most thought they were from random ships that he had acquired at some point or other.

"this is why people thing that ghost ship follows you" she said tapping the map after she had inspected it."most people avoid the area of the wreck even though it's deep within the waters" she looked over the map "would be quicker to route this way"she said tracing another route "though I believe.." she pulled a small chart from the single small bag she carried with her personal affects "there are some areas of rocks to navigate, so your route is probably best if you aren't afraid of ghosts" she shook her head a little then glanced at him before turning fully to him "I do request one thing. A night off, from dusk to dawn, every 29 days and starting 6 days from today"she said being oddly specific "is that acceptable?"

"We try to avoid the route you are suggesting." Sebastian stated, noticing the route. "Had one to many ships that have been trashed on those rocks. And ghost stories do not bother me. As I said...they only take hold if you believe, and most of my men are not bothered by the route. They prefer it as we don't have as many run in's with the navy trying to call us pirates." He stated with a slight shake of his head. When she mentioned the time off he nodded once. "That is acceptable. That is when I prefer to be out inspecting things anyways. Though I am okay in the sun, I prefer the moonlight so most of the time you will be managing things during the day." He informed her as he glanced back towards the charts. "The only time I suspect we may have issue is here." He pointed towards the island that was a known pirate haven. "Typically they are pretty good about leaving us alone, but I know that rumor lately has been that they are stirring up. Seems a potential knew pirate king. Usually happens about once every ten years or so."
