The flames lapped at her toes and she gasped pulling her legs in to her body. She instantly regretted it, the thick smoke choking her. She coughed painfully, the air too hot for her tears to make it down her cheeks before evaporating. Clutching her legs close she closed her eyes wondering which would kill her first, the flames of the smoke.
A loud crash caused her to gasp again and as she coughed she was forced to look up again. She felt dizzy now, and was barely able to distinguish the dark figure in front of her. A hand was held out to her and she weakly reached for it and was pulled to her feet just as she blacked out
Ten Years Later
His lungs were beginning to hurt now, his legs screaming in protest as he turned the corner, trying to escape. He froze, staring down the barrel of two flintlock pistols. His breathing laboured he wasn’t able to move, or ever close his eyes. With a flash and a loud bang everything went black. The last thing he saw was a pair of nicely shaped red lips, smirking at him.
He woke with a jolt, looking around panicked, positive that he was now dead. The musical sound of laughter made him turn his head. Maybe he was in heaven.
He stared at the beautiful woman not far off, sitting by a fire, her long brown hair falling around her shoulders in a gentle curl. She was an angel, he thought moving towards her. He stopped with a jolt and looked down realizing he was manacled to a post. Looking back at the women confused he narrowed his eyes, trying to see better. Her lips seemed familiar
"Well lookie 'ere" a hand reached out and grabbed him, pulling him off the ground. The man holding him was large and scruffy, his front canine was replaced with a golden took that glinted in the firelight "looks like our guest decided to wake up finally, Boss"
The women looked over and smiled, getting to her feet and walking over to join the men.
"Good morning" she said, leaning against the post the man was manacled too. She wore a find overcoat and corset like an aristocrat but instead of the accompanying full skirt she simply wore men's britches. Strapped to her his was a pair of flintlock pistols that felt eerily familiar
"Congratulation" she said to the man, inspecting her nail now. "You were randomly selected to save everyone on that ship you were on." she looked up at him and smirked "You should be honoured"
The man stared at her, confused and shocked. Seeing a woman as a pirate was rare enough but this one was not only that but a captain and well mannered.
"wha...what?"
Rose St. Williams laughed as she set the bulletin down and glanced over the finely dressed man beside her. She wore a beautiful red gown, accented with white late bustle. She held a lace parasol and was, to all observations, a woman of high birth.
"Don't they ever get anything right?" she asked her companion with a smile "The poor man, maybe we did more harm then good sending him to tall the Navy the way. We'll have to rethink our methods I think"
Her companion looked over and nodded "The navy wants all pirate abolished. I think they just fear people will start believing that not all pirates are bad"
Rose leaned back in her chair and sipped her tea "Still you think they'd get their acts together. If they only just worked with the air force instead of competing against them maybe they would be able to catch us all"
The man stood and offered her his hand to help her from the chair, which she accepted, getting to her feet
"Well then, that was a nice diversion" she said, dusting off her bustle
"Indeed, captain. We really must come to town more often" The man said, guiding her from the table into an automobile parked not too far off. "Now are you sure you don't need me, Ma'am? It's really no bother"
"Nonsense, Elliot" she said, waving her off with a gloved hand "I'm perfectly able on my own. Enjoy the day in town. The opportunities for these excursions don’t come very often." With that she pulled on her riding goggles and waved to the driver who took off.
The automobile left the main district of town and entered the industrial section. The sky was darkened by the smoke from the factories and the people on the street were shabbily dressed and covered in soot and dirt. As they drove by they receive many a stare, finely dressed, high born women were never seen in this part of the city. Neither were the highborn men, as it were. The automobile pulled in at the local tavern, a gunging unfriendly looking back and the woman stepped out removing her goggled and slipping them into the pocket in her full skirt. With her parasol closed but in had she walked into the tavern and was greeting by half a dozen stunned expressions. Paying them no heed she crossed the room and found a seat at the bar
"what can I offer you ma'am" The tending said, standing up straight as if to appear more proper for the strange guest "we 'ave the best ale in all the industrial district, we do."
Rose smiled and shook her head "Thank you, my good sir, but I am simply waiting for someone" she said, so politely the man didn’t know how to respond.
"'ey there" A gritty sort of man leaned against the bar and grinned at her, showing his teeth, which were just as filthy and actually missing somewhat "Wot you say you forget the bugger and come git yourself some real company" he said, putting his hand over hers
She slipped her hand from under his and wiped the dirt from her white glove with her other hand
"Please don't get your mess all over my new gloves. They were quite expensive" she said, blowing his invitation off
The gritty man's face went red and he grabbed her wrist pulling her from the stool "Just oo do ya think you are, lady" with his other hand he grabbed her under the chin "prancing in 'ere like you that queen or somethin'. Someone otta teach you wots wot" he drew her face closer to his. "Pretty lit'le dumplin like yourself will get eat'n up out here" he grinned
Rose said nothing quietly slipping one hand into her pocket where her flintlock pistol hid, waiting for him to try something.

'Pirates attack passenger ship No casualties. A report came in of a pirate raid of the passenger ship Lindo. The navy was alerted to the raid when a man, who will remain unnamed, came forward out of the wastelands claiming to have been on a ship attacked by the infamous pirate ship Bloody Baron. According to reports the man was taken from the ship by the pirates, into the wastes and given instructions to head to the nearest Navy post and report what had happened, giving him the ships current location. The royal Navy went out to the given location to find the ship, finding all the passengers alive and well, locked inside the hull of the ship. The Captain of the Bloody Barons was reported to be a young woman who goes by the name Blood Rose. The man who reported this incident has been taken into questioning under the suspicion of cavorting with Pirate' |
