Her eyes scanned the notice board from under the hood. The rain battered down on her frame as she pulled the black fabric tighter around her. Other's, humans, passed by her without a second thought to the woman in a cloak. A sword rested on her back, hidden by the rain soaked fabric. A single strand of blond hair slipped form it's confinements, down into her slightly tanned face. Forest green eyes were shadowed by the thoughts of what she had done, and what she risked doing. The choices she made, they were now the consequences she faced. The young woman tore down a notice of an elven woman. It simply read
Wanted:
Elven female
Name: Unknown
Age: Unknown
Reward $25,000 dead, $100,000 alive.
Crime: Elven spie sent to murder human nobility.
The picture was of a beautiful young elven woman with features that would make most human women jealous. The female's lips twisted into a smirk as she looked at her own picture on the flier. She dropped it into a puddle and stepped on it as she turned and moved on, the cloak concealing her identity. No one questioned her as she simply looked like another human trying to move on out of the rain. The young woman entered the nearby inn and paid for a room before moving to sit down near the fire to warm herself. She chose not to remove her hood, knowing that many of the grungy men in the place would easily cut her head off just for the reward. She knew she could handle most of them, but if they all came after her, she knew that she would suffer greatly, if they even allowed her to live.
A soft sigh escaped the woman's lips as she starred into the smoldering logs of the fire place that rested before her. She longed for the beautiful forests of her homeland, but knew that she was not yet ready to return. She had set out to see the world, wanting to learn about the lands around her home, tired of constantly being cooped up in a castle and being told how to live her life. She was tired of a council that was constantly trying to decide what direction her life would go.
The young woman, who went by Valeska, sighed softly once more as she shook the thoughts of home from her head. She had a job to do, one that required her to remain focused. What that job was, however, was not something she shared, for she was ashamed of what had happened. Two years ago, she had fallen on hard times during her travels. Being an elf, she was not trusted by many, and was turned away form many towns. A man had welcomed her into his home in the woods, offering her a place to stay, work and food. She had readily agreed, choosing to trust the human. After a time, she had grown to trust him and told him about her home and her family. He pretended to be curious and stated that he wanted to help protect her family, since the elves, by that time, were at war with the humans. She agreed and wrote him a list of the names of her family and the nobles that she knew the people wanted to keep safe. What she did not expect, was for the man to use the list for cruel intentions. After she found out what he intended to use the list for, he beat her and left her for dead. After two months and what she felt was a long recovery, she began to hunt for the man and his friends, hoping to prevent the list from being used against her family. As time went, she had learned of at least three of the elven nobles being killed. After that, things had gone silent. She still chose to continue hunting him, hoping to stop there from being any more murders caused by her childish stupidity of trusting a human with the most important thing to her.
Valeska glanced around at the men in the room before returning her focus to the fire. The inn keeper brought out a loaf of bread, some meats and a glass of wine for her which she thanked him for. After paying she ate on the bread, choosing not to mess with the meats at the moment. She also refused to touch the wine, drinking instead from the water she carried with her. She had lost the trail of the man who had betrayed her trust, so for now, Valeska simply bided her time, searching for clues to continue her hunt, hoping one day that she would be able to return home to her family.
