A dark, clear night revealed the stars above. Forest green eyes stared out at them, wondering what it would be like to travel through the skies with them. She had always wondered since she was a child. However, even when she had left to travel and strengthen her skills, she had continued to dream.
When the war broke out threatening her people, she returned home to find that her mistake in trusting a human had resulted in several noble families being destroyed. She had thought her own father lost, only to find it not true. To find that it had been her brother in law instead.
During the beginning years of the war, she had met a human that had changed her mind and her feelings towards the same race that had betrayed her and her people. The war had cost both sides a great deal.
On this particular night, the young Elvin princess sat on her window seat, eyes once again faced towards the heavens. The Elvin council was still trying to force their hand and have her marry someone of their choosing. This had been typical of years past, but thanks to her father, it was starting to change.
She curled up a bit tighter, her heart still grieving for the pain that many still suffered from the after affects of the war. It had only been about 4 months since the end of the fighting and the start of peace. She had lost many close to her. However, thanks to the human, she had finally started to act like who she was supposed to. She had taken on more responsibilities, and was finally being the princess she should have been before she had left the first time.
This night, however, she was simply a woman. She prayed to the stars that she would have time to herself to be herself. However, she knew the chances of that were slim. The council kept her busy, intent to keep her away from her human friend. During his time away, she had sent letters only to find out that many of them had never reached their destination or had never been sent.
With a soft sigh, the young Elvin princess lifted herself from her window seat and moved over to her bed. She was not looking forward to what the morning would bring, and what nonsense the council would put her through.
As the morning came around the young Elvin princess stirred. Her lady in waiting was already there laying out her attire for the day. 'Lorena...." The princess said, startling the older woman. "Princess Valeska." She turned and curtsied. "The council and your parents await you in the throne room. There is a visitor arriving shortly."
The young woman who Lorena had addressed as Valeska nodded once. She got up and stretched before readying herself for the day. Once ready the Elvin princess headed for the throne room, bowing her head in greeting to several of the servants and nobles that milled about the castle. A few moments later she arrived in the thrown room and bowed her head to her parents as was required when around the council who stood off to the side.
